What these repairs come to, before you ask

Flat $95 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it.

Typical all-in totals for the repairs that come up most often out here — parts and labour together, from the low end of a straightforward job to the high end of an awkward one. Which end of a band a particular unit lands on is what the visit establishes.

  • Door gasket or seal replacement $270 – $770
  • Evaporator or condenser fan motor $300 – $650
  • Defrost heater, thermostat or sensor $310 – $720
  • Ice maker, water valve or supply line $280 – $720
  • Electronic control board $520 – $900
  • Compressor or sealed-system repair $970 – $2,190

Against replacing it

$8,630 – $20,330

That is the appliance alone. Set the repair band beside it before deciding — on a built-in, the cabinetry usually decides the argument rather than the compressor.

Where those replacement figures come from

A comparable built-in refrigerator, appliance only — before delivery, installation, custom panels or cabinetry work. Undercounter and wine units sit below this band; a column replacement is usually two purchases rather than one.

Four things decide where inside a band a job lands:

  1. Which part failed A door gasket, an evaporator fan and a sealed-system component are three different orders of job. Until the fault is found, any number would be a guess.
  2. Whether the part is still made Current models are straightforward. Older units sometimes need a superseded part sourced, and that changes both the price and the timeline.
  3. How the unit is installed A panelled column in a run of cabinetry takes longer to get at than a freestanding unit with clearance on both sides. Access is real labour.
  4. What else is close to failing If a second component is visibly on the way out, you hear about it while the unit is open rather than on a second call.

Before you call

The five things people ask first

Short answers, all of them checkable.

What does the service call cover?
The $95 service call covers the visit and the full diagnosis: readings taken at the appliance and a plain explanation of the fault. If you approve the repair, it is credited against the total.
Which towns do you cover?
Dover, Sherborn, Medfield and Westwood. Keeping the map that small is what makes it possible to plan a day around driveways that are a few minutes long.
Can I book without calling?
Yes. The booking page takes an appointment directly. There is no form on this site and no email address — the phone and the booking page are the only two routes, on purpose.
My unit is still covered by the manufacturer. Should I call you?
No. Repairs still covered by the manufacturer belong with a factory-authorised provider, and we are not one. Call the manufacturer first; if the claim is declined or the unit falls outside its coverage, we can pick it up from there.
When is the phone answered?
The line is answered 24/7. Work is carried out 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, seven days.

A November storm took our power out and the cabinet never recovered its set point. The board had taken a hit. He fitted a new one and suggested a surge device, which read as advice rather than a sales pitch.

The whole bin had fused into one solid block. He traced it to a bin thermostat that had stopped calling for shutoff, and while he was in there he flushed the line that runs through the cold pantry wall.

Village centre house, galley kitchen, no room to pull the cabinet out. He worked from the front, found a split door gasket letting warm air track down the hinge side, and had the right seal on the van.
